Let's create the first gallery, for this I will take a set of photos from the customer. For me, as an artist, their names are important, if they are written in Cyrillic, I will rename all the files, writing them in Latin letters. How to give names to files - I use the names of the post, where I will insert the gallery, so as not to be confused with them in the future. If I use a lot of pictures, I also use numbers. You do not need to use very large images in galleries, because the higher their resolution and quality, width with height, the more time the browser needs to spend on displaying them, besides, they will be displayed on the page as small icons, and after clicking on some image of the gallery with the mouse cursor - they will be loaded by the browser in all its glory.

If you are planning to create a lot of galleries using the plugin NextGEN Gallery,- technically it is possible, think about the fact that the space on the hosting servers can run out rather quickly and you will have to either delete them, or buy additional space on the server.

I call the creation panel new gallery(green arrow) and the tab I need immediately opens (blue arrow). In the window of the “Add new gallery” tab I write the name of the new gallery in Latin letters. Actually, the name can be written in Russian, but I control myself, I try to write all the names of directories and files in Latin letters, letters, but sometimes you get carried away and write in our way. After creating the first gallery, appears new tab“Upload Images” (black arrow). In the drop-down list (crimson arrow), select the name of the created gallery. If a lot of galleries will be created on the blog, be careful to upload photos to the exact gallery you need. Then I press the button (red arrow) to select the files to be moved to the gallery directory on the server.

But after completing this process, you can select the next file for the created gallery. As you can see, the work is rather tedious if there are more than a dozen of such files. If there are 5 - 10 photos, I use this method of filling the gallery with material. But this is the only one reliable way, so that all files are guaranteed to be transferred to the server, you will be lucky if there are no interruptions in the connection at this time, otherwise you will spend a lot of time and errors are possible.

You can download photos from the archive, but there are also limitations: the archive must be in zip format, its volume should be less than 2 MB. Perhaps limiting the size of the archive is not very practical. After all, only eleven files fit into such an archive file, but they are not of the highest quality. And if you need to upload a batch of 100 photos or 20. Then you need to create several archives, upload one by one, while creating such archives and make sure that duplicate photos do not get there: sort, select, delete, archive several folders. Saving time and ease of creating galleries with a plugin NextGEN Gallery using batch file uploads - dubious, at least for me.

But after completing the process of uploading files to the directory of the created gallery, the plugin reports that everything worked out for me and can continue to work.

Where are the photos that the plugin loads NextGEN Gallery for our galleries?

In general, every blogger should know what is going on on his server in order to be able to manually clean his blog from unnecessary files, and if anything, upload pictures to the server using an FTP client.

Using an FTP client, go to your WordPress blog, go to the wp-content directory, find the gallery directory. It is created by the plugin NextGEN Gallery automatically after installing and activating it. Go to it, and you should display all the catalogs that appear during the creation of a new gallery. If you have created a gallery, but cannot upload photos in the ways that I described above, open the created gallery folder using your FTP client to make it easier to find, name the created galleries clearly and write the names in Latin letters in order to further insure against mistakes that can occur during a system failure on the server. It should contain only the thumbs daddy (green frame in the top screenshot). And using the program, upload all files to desired directory... This is the way I use it when I create galleries and I need to upload a lot of photos, as my experience has shown, it is faster, more reliable, and I do not spend a lot of time on this work.

How to manage a gallery created with the NextGEN Gallery plugin.

After uploading the photos, I have to customize the created gallery. For this, there is a section called Manage Galleries.

Nothing complicated, go into it, select the desired gallery, click on its name and work with it as much as you want.

First, by default, the title of the gallery is written in the title (1), Description - any text with keywords is written to the post to which I will attach this gallery (2). Where the photos are placed is indicated in field 5. This line is not edited here, but is posted for information.

If we want to make the gallery also an anchor of the link, use the drop-down list 6, and the title photo will be the one whose name will be displayed in the drop-down list 7. Saving the changes in the settings of the edited galley is done by pressing the button 4.

And there is still a button 3. If you have uploaded photos to the gallery directory using an FTP client, you must click it, and the plugin will receive information about the uploaded photos. If you uploaded files to the gallery using the plugin loader itself, then the button does not need to be pressed. If you delete a file from the gallery directory, press button 3 and the information about the photos will be updated.

This screenshot shows the continuation of the settings panel of the created gallery, we have already written a name and description for it, now we need to work with the photos themselves. As you can see from the screenshot, the plugin displays the format of the uploaded photos correctly (8), and their number coincides with the number of uploaded files, which is already good. Again, I can write the file attributes (9), when the browser loads the page with this gallery, these attributes will be visible when viewing the page code, in normal mode they should not be available to blog readers. Does something go wrong and the photos won't load in the browser window. In general, I prescribe them for search robots, there is not a lot of work, but I hope that I will help promote the page in and the blog as a whole. I do the same with the Tags (10) fields - I write a few keywords... And like that for every photo that is uploaded to the gallery.

A very interesting tool Sort gallery (11) - you and I have the opportunity to set your own order for displaying photos in the NextGEN Gallery, because the photos themselves can be sorted automatically, by name, and this order does not always coincide with the chronology of events. Then click the button and in the window that appears, by dragging and dropping images, set the desired order of displaying them in your gallery.

So sorting is performed automatically according to the parameters specified in the list (13), but you can arrange photos in manual mode (14). To do this, move the mouse cursor over the image that you want to move to another location, press right button manipulator, and drag it to a new location, when you see just such a black strip (14), release the mouse button. Sort the images until you achieve the desired results. Do not forget to save the changes made (15), and then only return to the gallery settings panel (16), which we create using the NextGEN Gallery plugin.

The latter is a pretty powerful tool Bulk actions (12).

It's easy to use: select the photos to be processed, select the desired effect from the drop-down list, and click apply. Among the possibilities that are given to users when creating a gallery using the NextGEN Gallery plugin: deleting and rotating images, working with tags, rotating and importing meta tags, setting a new background for images, resizing them. But the funniest thing for me is installing watermarks on images that are inserted into the WordPress blog gallery.

How to embed NextGEN Gallery in a blog post?

But this is done very simply. I go to the editor of the desired post that was published or planned on the blog. I set the cursor to the one where the gallery should appear. I select the icon “A” and in the appeared panel I select the name of the gallery “B”. I save the post.

No. You can use the Cyrillic alphabet in the gallery name.

Is there a translation of NextGEN Gallery in Russian?

Yes, at the moment the plugin has a Russian translation of about 37% of the plugin. There are non-translated buttons, lines of descriptions, but this is not essential. You can use the plugin without any problems. If you want to translate the plugin completely, then use the Loco Translate plugin. If you have found a complete translation of the plugin, then upload it to the folder / wp-content / plugins / nextgen-gallery / lang.

When uploading photos to the gallery, I cannot find them in the Media Libraries. Where are these images?

Creating a new gallery

To create a new gallery, go to the page: Add Gallery / Images.

1 – provide a name for the new gallery.

2 – click the Add files button to upload images from your computer.

3 – click on the Start Upload button to upload the images to the gallery.

After that, you will create a new gallery. Here you can import a ready-made folder with images into your gallery. Select a folder and click on the button - import / gallery. Please note that if you check the box to keep the images in the original folder, then when you delete the gallery, all images will be deleted from the original folder.

On the gallery page, you can change the main parameters of the gallery - title, description, gallery location, page link, cover image. You can exclude any image from the gallery.

Adding via post or page

Open for editing or create new page or recording. In the visual editor wordpress you will have a new green button to add a gallery. Click on this button.

Working with the plugin

Since the plugin provides tremendous opportunities for creating a gallery and it can take a small book to describe the entire plugin, we will only consider creating a simple gallery. Note: gallery name must be in Latin, otherwise the plugin will not find the path to images.
