Beech does not connect to the internet via wifi. Why did the device (laptop, phone, tablet, TV) stop connecting to Wi-Fi? Correct the wireless settings

If Android does not connect to WiFi, then most often the user sees the message "Obtaining an IP address" or the notification "Authentication failure". Another common connection error - Android writes "Saved, WPA / WPA2 protection", but does not go online.

This article is suitable for all brands that produce phones on Android 10/9/8/7: Samsung, HTC, Lenovo, LG, Sony, ZTE, Huawei, Meizu, Fly, Alcatel, Xiaomi, Nokia and others. We are not responsible for your actions.

Attention! You can ask your question to a specialist at the end of the article.

Possible causes of failure

If Android cannot connect to Wi-Fi - for example, instead of an active Wi-Fi icon, you see a gray button and an exclamation mark icon - then the reason for this may be:

  1. Incorrect from wifi.
  2. Setting an unsupported security type or wireless standard in the router settings.
  3. Android firmware issues.

The first step is to understand which device is experiencing problems. If only your phone is not connected to the point, then the reason should be sought in its settings and firmware. If the wireless network is not found by any device, then you should check the settings of the router.

Obtaining an IP address message

If, when you try to connect, a message appears with the text "", but the connection is not established, then the reason for this may be the DHCP server being disabled in the router settings or Android problems. A simple reboot of the router can help.

If the DHCP server fails, restarting the device will fix it. When saving the error:

  1. Open your router settings.
  2. Make sure the DHCP server is enabled.
Increase

Depending on the router model, the order of enabling / disabling DHCP may vary, so you need to look for instructions for your device.

Authentication error

If connection authentication fails, then the problem is most likely due to an incorrect Wi-Fi password. To fix the error:

  1. Forget the wireless hotspot on your phone / tablet.
  2. Reboot your router.
Increase
  1. Change your password using only Latin letters and numbers.
  2. Make sure WPA2-PSK is selected for network authentication.

Increase

If the phone does not support the WPA2-PSK standard, then select another mode - WPA, WPA2. It is clear that you cannot do this in the metro or a shopping center, so you just have to put up with it. But at home or in a hotel, you can access the router and check the parameters of the wireless network.

Saved, WPAWPA2 protection

If the connection is made without a password, then there can be no authentication error. However, there is another situation - the network is saved, but. Restarting the router usually helps, but sometimes you have to go deep enough into the settings.

Increase

Also, look at the number of devices allowed. If it is "0", then there are no restrictions.

Network Discovery Problems

If, then changing the region and channel usually also helps. If Russia is selected in the settings, the router automatically connects to channels from 1 to 13. However, some devices do not support channels greater than 10 - this is how an error appears. To fix it:

  1. Put the US region - it only has 10 channels.
  2. Change the channel manually to one of the range 1-10.

If that doesn't work, make sure other devices can see the network. Perhaps the cause of the problem should be looked for in the operation of the Wi-Fi module on Android.

Quite a common situation: a user tries to connect to Wi-Fi from his phone, but nothing happens. After reviewing the information below, you will learn why this is happening and how to solve the problem that has arisen.

Initial phone check

Manufacturers are actively working to improve the stability of mobile operating systems, but from time to time any program crashes. That is why it is recommended to start solving the problem by checking the phone's functionality. For Android, iOS and Windows Phone (Windows Mobile), the recommendations in this case are identical. Follow the sequence below.

1. Restart your device and try connecting to Wi-Fi again.

2. Estimate the number of connection signal strength indicators. If there are less than 3 of them, try moving closer to your router or other used wireless Internet source to improve the quality of the connection.

3. Make sure Battery Saver is off. Connect the AC adapter if necessary.

4. Disable Bluetooth. Wireless connections can work in the same range, which is what causes interference.

5. Disable Airplane mode, if active.

6. Try to activate access to information about your location and connect to Wi-Fi - the legislation of some countries blocks the connection via wireless networks when this option is inactive.

If previously WiFi connection worked

If you have successfully used a currently problematic network in the past, delete this connection from your phone's memory. To do this, go to the list of networks, click on the problematic connection for a few seconds (until the context menu appears) and delete the connection.

If all else fails, try connecting from your phone to any other available connection. Failure in this case with a high degree of probability will indicate a breakdown of the radio module - only the service center employees will help to correct the situation.

Check if the connection is working. To do this, try connecting to it using any other device that has a Wi-Fi function. If the connection does not work, make changes to the router settings.

Important note! The procedure for entering the settings of the router varies depending on the manufacturer and equipment model. In most cases, to gain access, you need to enter the address 192.168.0.0 or 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your browser. The standard login and password are admin. If it does not work, check the manufacturer's instructions for the information that is relevant for your router.

Beforehand, just try to reboot the router - quite often they "freeze", because of which access to the Internet is blocked.

The further procedure is as follows.

First, you must ensure that the entered security key is correct. Try to enter the password to connect to the selected access point again, but more carefully, with the option "Display symbols" (show password) activated.

If you do not remember the password, check it in the settings of the router.

As an example, the order of interaction with a D-Link router is shown. In your case, everything will be almost the same, minor changes can only affect the interface, the names of menu items and other trifles.

Once on the router's settings page, do the following:
click the "Advanced settings" button;
in the Wi-Fi window, open the Security Settings link;
in the line "PSK encryption key" look for the password and make sure that this is the combination you enter when you try to connect to Wi-Fi from your phone.

Secondly, make sure your router settings are correct - you need to check if DHCP is enabled. When it is off, the phone will not be able to obtain an IP address, and therefore the connection will not work.

On the router settings page, click "Advanced settings" again and in the "Network" window find the "LAN" category.

Activate DHCP, if the function is disabled, by changing the "Mode" line to the "Allow" state.

Save your changes, restart your router, and try connecting to Wi-Fi from your phone.

If that doesn't work, there are 3 options left:
call the provider's support service and find out if the Internet works at all and whether any changes have been made to the connection settings;
hand over the phone for repair;
repair / replace the Internet router.

If our instructions did not help to solve the problem, then write in the comments and we will definitely consider your problem.

Often, after the long-awaited purchase of a brand new laptop, connecting a router for distributing WiFi, or simply completely reinstalling all the device software, the computer, for some unknown reason, cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network. Every second person finds himself in a situation where the laptop does not connect to the Internet via WiFi, and this, to put it mildly, causes discontent. The laptop simply refuses to see all kinds of Internet networks, and the special icon itself, which is located on the bottom notification panel of the device, together with the usual little white stripes, shows an exclamation mark (connection is limited) or, even worse, a red cross (a personal computer does not see networks at all).

Why won't WiFi connect on my laptop?

The reasons for this behavior of your laptop are incredibly many. In most cases, the problem lies in the fact that the special WiFi module cannot be turned on. In this case, the laptop will work and detect all networks, but during connection it will write that the operating system, unfortunately, failed to connect to this network. How to solve the problem if the laptop sees WiFi but does not connect? The first step is to make sure that all the necessary drivers are installed on the so-called network adapter.

Oddly enough, this happens most often with laptops running on the Windows 7 operating system. As noted earlier, there are many reasons why your laptop cannot connect to the wireless network. Since there are so many reasons, it means there are also many ways to still force a personal computer to connect to the Internet. Is your laptop not connecting to WiFi? Windows may not have to do with it!

The laptop is not always guilty!

The problem may be not only in the PC, but also, as practice shows, in the router itself (in other words, the access point to the network). If the laptop does not connect to the Internet, then first of all, you should determine what the problem is: in the PC or in the router. How to do it? There are several ways to confirm or deny the fact that the problem is with the router, the easiest of which is to help a neighbor. Just visit your neighbor. Ask for a password from the network to check your laptop. If he can connect, then everything is in order with him, and the problem is hidden in the router. If the laptop does not connect to WiFi, writes the same thing as at home, then the problem is in the laptop.

Most likely difficulties

The most common problems with connecting a laptop or netbook to a wireless network are as follows.

  • WiFi does not turn on on a personal computer. This is one of the easiest problems to solve, so if you find yourself in such a situation, you should not worry - everything will work out!
  • The device does not detect the network of your personal router, although it sees neighbors and others. This problem is not solved as easily as the first, but still the main thing is what? The main thing is that it is being solved!
  • The personal computer sees all the networks, but cannot connect to any of them, and writes: "Failed to connect." It is possible to solve this problem, because it is the most common one. Of course, it's not a fact that you can fix everything yourself, but it's worth a try, especially since there won't be any complicated actions.
  • The PC quickly connects to WiFi networks, but under no circumstances opens Internet pages in browsers. The problem is also more than common, you can solve it yourself, but, unfortunately, not always. You may need to call a professional technician to fix this.

Enabling WiFi on a laptop

Unfortunately, not all laptop models have default settings, which is why the laptop does not connect to the Internet via WiFi. In some situations, you still have to perform various actions in order for the laptop to connect to a particular wireless network and no longer bother its owner. This method can really help, but only for those users who have not reinstalled the Windows operating system on their computer. If you've done this before, the advice may not help. But it's worth a try!

Key combination, dedicated switch

There are laptop models in which, in order to enable the ability to connect to a wireless network, you need to press the required key combination on the keyboard. In such PCs, the first mandatory button is Fn, and the second is a special hardware key located somewhere from F1 to F12. Most often, these keys are F2, F6 and F10 - it depends on the manufacturer of the personal computer, as well as its model.

If your laptop is not one of the ones mentioned above, then on your laptop model, the network is turned on using a small switch. The switch can be anywhere on your PC - back, bottom, side. Finding it will not be so easy, but then you just need to move the slider from "Off" to the opposite side of "On". Note: the special keys will not work if you have reinstalled the operating system. However, try it anyway - it wasn’t. On this, your problems about the fact that WiFi on the laptop does not connect can be solved.

Turn the wireless capabilities of the laptop on and off

It is very important to know that after you have turned on the wireless adapter using the special keys, you may also need to turn it on "from the inside", that is, in the operating system of the laptop itself. There are only 2 options: Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Enabling WiFi in Windows 7

If for some reason your personal laptop does not connect to WiFi, you will have to try to fix it yourself. First of all, we go to the PC control panel, select "Network Management" there, then we find the button "Change the parameters of the network adapter".

For faster execution, you need to press the Win + R key, and then enter the simple command ncpa.cpl. Pay your attention to the network icon, if there is simply no one there, skip this item. If, nevertheless, there is a wireless network icon that is in a disabled state (that is, it has a gray color), right-click on the object, in the drop-down menu select "Enable network" or simply "Enable".

Enabling WiFi in Windows 8

Here everything is a little more complicated. If you don't understand why the laptop won't connect to WiFi, this option is worth trying.

On the right panel, select "Options", then click on "Change ...", after that you need to find the "Wireless network" button. Make sure the button is on, if not, turn it on yourself.

Now we follow all the same steps as in the Windows 7 operating system. Simply put, you must completely make sure that the ad hoc wireless connection on your computer is turned on.

Also, regardless of the OS version, you may have to turn to a program that specializes in wireless networks and connecting to WiFi. Almost all manufacturing companies have their own programs with the word "Wireless" or "WiFi" in the name.

Drivers

Another reason why the laptop does not connect to WiFi, writes: "Connection limited" or something like that, is the hated PC drivers. This happens especially often after the operating system has been reinstalled on a personal computer. You may have been able to reinstall Windows yourself, but you could not install the drivers from the official website of the company that created your laptop.

There are also situations when the computer automatically installs the necessary drivers after installing a new OS, but the PC itself has never done anything right. Even if you installed the drivers using some program, you still need to go to the official website of the company and download all the necessary drivers there. Only after installing them will you be able to connect to the WiFi network, if that was the case, of course.

Router

It was already mentioned above that the problem may not be in the computer, but in the router itself, which emits a signal. You can check the health of the router in several ways:

Connection limited

Such an inscription quite often pops up on laptop screens, the owners of which do not understand why WiFi is not connected on a laptop. The solution to such a problem will not take much time, but you still have to do everything exactly according to the instructions, otherwise you can "cheat".

When a person finds himself in a similar situation, panic begins: what to do if WiFi on the laptop does not connect, “Limited” is written, and you still don’t understand anything at all? Don't worry, everything can be fixed. Another thing is that not everything is on your own, but this is not such a big problem.

If you select a network in the list of available ones, then enter the password correctly (if, of course, there is one), then wait for the connection ... and then a message pops up that everything is connected. But on the network icon, there is some kind of incomprehensible exclamation mark icon in a yellow triangle. Hover your mouse over this sign and the system will tell you that the connection is limited. No internet resources will work. What to do if the laptop does not connect to WiFi, or rather, it connects, but there is no Internet?

Certain problems with providers. Reinstalling the OS

The situation is that the problem may not be in the router or even in the laptop. If the connection is limited, one of the options for solving the problem is to call the technical support of the provider. Experts will try to solve this problem within 24 hours, perhaps a little more, but after that such problems will not arise.

If the technical support claims that they do not have the problem, but yours, then it is. In this case, when the laptop does not connect to the WiFi network (or rather, it connects, but does not work), you can repeat some of the tips that are a little higher. However, it will be easiest to call some private specialist who, for 200-300 rubles, will completely reinstall Windows for you on any one you want. He will also install all the necessary drivers for everything to work, well, and if you wish, if you ask, he can install a good antivirus.

Many more find themselves in a situation where, in fact, nothing is broken, but only a slight failure has occurred in the router. Don't worry, you won't have to reconnect anything, you just need to completely disconnect the router from the cables and wires for 5-10 minutes, so that it "rests" a little. After that, reconnect everything: the Internet cable and power supply. And after a couple of minutes, the laptop will automatically connect to the network (if this does not happen, do it yourself), and everything will work fine without interruption.

There is also a situation when there are no problems with anything, but suddenly WiFi stops working. What to do in this case? Either call support or restart your router. Or the problem may still be in the laptop. There will be nothing complicated in the actions: you just need to first disconnect from the network, and after a couple of minutes reconnect to it by entering the password. Everything should work, there should be no more such complaints. We hope you have received an answer to the question why the laptop does not connect to WiFi.

Internet problems are always frustrating. They can interfere with work or play, or limit other online experiences. If we are talking about a cable connection, there may not be so many possible reasons for this problem.

The laptop detects an available wi-fi network, but does not connect

One fairly common problem with a network is when your computer sees a network available for connection, but for one reason or another cannot connect to it. This problem can occur for one of the following reasons:

  • a problem with the hardware drivers on the laptop - for this reason, the connection may not work or be interrupted immediately after a successful connection to the network;
  • communication interference - too many devices should not be connected to Wi-Fi, and you should also make sure that nothing can interfere between your laptop and the router;
  • the password for connecting to this network was entered incorrectly - if you entered the security key incorrectly, the connection will not be completed;
  • network mismatch - if the connection settings on your computer and the network settings do not match, the connection will not be made;
  • failure of the operating system - if there are some problems with the operating system, the connection will not be made correctly.

Solutions for wi-fi connection problems

Let's take a look at the solution to each of the problems mentioned above, and also study the general recommendations for those who have encountered this problem in their system.

Error "Windows could not connect to Wi-Fi" and how to solve it

When you try to connect, you may see the message "Windows could not connect to the Wi-Fi network." This error can have several reasons. The source of the problem can be determined as follows:

Video: Fix Internet Connection Problems

Security key mismatch when connecting to a Wi-Fi network

A security key is a security code for your Wi-Fi network. The user independently sets it so that outsiders cannot connect to the network. And if you are faced with an error about entering an incorrect password, then it is likely that it was indeed entered incorrectly. Do the following to make sure the situation is correct:

  • do not enter characters blindly - when you enter characters, they are automatically replaced with hidden characters. Uncheck Hide Symbols to display normal text. Thus, before sending, you can make sure that the password is entered correctly;

Check the box "Display entered characters" to make sure that the password is entered correctly

  • check the layout as you type - with hidden characters, you might not have noticed that you entered the password in the wrong language. Change the language and try to enter the password again;

On Windows 10, the language can be changed with the Win + Space key combination

  • make sure the Caps Lock key does not enable you to type in all caps - the security key is case sensitive. Therefore, it is important when entering to pay attention to the Caps Lock key, which fixes the input in capital letters;

Pressing the Caps Lock key changes the case of the entered characters

  • specify the password - if your password is recorded somewhere, then you should check these records. Human memory can sometimes fail. And also to compare your information, you can ask for help from another person who knows the password.

Don't share your security key with strangers - this will lead to additional connections, which in turn will slow down your internet speed.

Inconsistency of the saved network parameters

After creating a new connection, you can often see an error with the text "The network settings saved on this computer do not meet the requirements of this network." This problem often occurs after self-configuring the router. To correct this situation, all you need to do is delete the connection and then re-create it. This will update all settings and it will be possible to establish a connection again. This is done as follows:

  1. Click on the internet icon in the lower right corner with the right mouse button and select the "Network and Sharing Center" section.

Select "Network and Sharing Center" in the context menu of network connections

  2. After that, you need to open the control menu for wireless networks. This is done using the corresponding button on the left side of the screen.

Go to the "Manage wireless networks" section

  3. Call the context menu of the network that generates an error, and select the "Delete network" item.

Right click on the connection and click "Delete network"

  4. And then try to connect to the network again. Now that there is no data stored about this network, the connection should go well if the network is not password protected.

Windows 10 solves this problem a little differently:

The problem may arise, for example, due to careless changes to the data in the connection settings.

Other ways that can help you connect

And now let's take a look at a few general solutions that can help you with various connection problems. In our case, when a Wi-Fi connection is not possible, these methods will also help.

Reboot the router

The easiest way that all providers advise first. Of course, this will not help with serious problems, but it can fix one-time connection problems. The best way to perform a reboot is as follows:

Checking and installing network drivers

Updating network drivers is no more difficult than updating drivers for any other hardware. You can do this using the automatic driver loading system as follows:

  1. Press the Win + X key combination to open the shortcut menu and select the "Device Manager" section there. Another way to get to this menu is to right-click on the Start icon.

Select the "Device Manager" section in the shortcut menu

  2. In Device Manager, find the "Network Adapters" section. Expand this tab and you will see your network devices. And then right-click on the available hardware. After the context menu opens, select the "Update drivers ..." action. To determine if a device needs a driver update, look at its name and the presence or absence of an icon indicating the need to update drivers.

Open the "Network adapters" section and click "Update drivers" on the desired device

  3. You will be asked about the update method. If you have an Internet connection (for example, using a cable, since a wi-fi connection is not available), then just click on the "Automatic search for updated drivers" button.

Select "Search automatically for updated drivers" if you have a network connection

  4. Wait until the end of the search, download and installation of drivers.

Wait until the end of the search for drivers on the network and their installation

  5. If there is no network access, you must download the driver for your network adapter from another device and select "Search for drivers on this computer".

To search for drivers on your own, select "Search for drivers on this computer"

  6. Specify the location of the folder with the drivers for their further installation.

Specify the location of the drivers on your computer and click on the "Next" button

  7. After the installation is completed in one way or another, restart the computer.
  8. Try connecting to the wi-fi network again to see if your problem has been resolved.

If a simple update doesn't work, try uninstalling the driver completely and reinstalling it in the same way.

Resetting the router settings

If the problems with the Internet do not disappear and there is no way to connect to wi-fi, it is worth resorting to a more radical way to fix this problem. Namely, reset the router settings and configure it from scratch. You should not do this if you are unsure of your own knowledge and care - you risk being left without Internet access. You can reset the router in the following way:

  1. Open any browser and enter the digits of your local address into its address bar. Try numbers: 192.168.1.1; 192.168.0.1; 192.168.0.254. One of these addresses will turn out to be correct.

Enter the local address of your computer in the browser to open the router settings

  2. To log into your account, enter the word admin both as a password and as a login.

Use the word admin as login and password

  3. Go to the Factory Defaults section and click on the Restore button to completely reset your router's settings.

Press the Restore button to perform a full reset of the router settings

  4. Another way to reset the settings is to find the RESET button on the back of the device and hold it down for a few seconds.

Hold the reset key for a few seconds to reset

After performing a reset, the device will return to factory settings. Most likely, you will not have to configure anything manually after that and the problems with the Internet will already be solved. But in case you still have to perform the settings yourself, this is done as follows:

  1. Enter the settings of your router in the way that was indicated in the previous instructions.
  2. Go to the network section using the left panel of the router settings.

Recently, blog readers often turn to me with the following problem: after the user has configured the wifi router, the cable connection works fine, but there is a connection through WiFi, but the Internet does not. Roughly speaking Wi-Fi wifait but no sense))). In this article, we will try to figure out the cause of this phenomenon together and find ways to solve it. Let's first define what the problem looks like.

In most cases, outwardly it looks like this - after connecting to a WiFi network in the system tray near the clock, an exclamation mark appears in a yellow triangle on the network connection icon.

Click on the icon with the right mouse button and select the item "Network and Sharing Center" from the menu. Once there, we look at the window for viewing active networks.

Option 1. message - Unidentified network.

In this case, we act like this:

Step 1. Eliminate the failure to connect to the WiFi network.

In this step, we will eliminate the simplest software failure in the wireless adapter, which unfortunately happens in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. To do this, you just need to turn it off and on. To turn off the Wi-Fi adapter - double-click on it with the left mouse button. The "Wireless Connection Status" window will open:

At the bottom of the window, we find the "Disable" button. Click on it. The status window will then close. Now double-click the left button on the "Wireless network" icon, or right-click on it and select the "Enable" item in the menu that opens:

The Wi-Fi adapter will turn on. After that, we wait until it hooks up to the wireless network and after that we check the work. The most interesting thing is that 30% of wireless problems are usually solved by simply turning the adapter on and off. With what it can be connected? The fact is that many Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users do not turn off their computer, but simply put it to sleep. After a certain time, the DHCP server of the router removes the computer's IP address from the reservation and gives it to another device - a tablet, smartphone or laptop. Therefore, after waking up, your operating system will not be able to connect immediately and you have to reconnect. Note: If you have only one device with WiFi, but a similar problem occurs often, try deleting this one in the list of saved wireless networks and reconnecting.

Step 2. Register the IP address.

The first step did not help, so the problem is most likely that you either do not have a DHCP server enabled in the router settings, or for some reason the computer cannot obtain an IP address automatically. Solution - we will register the IP address manually. To do this, right-click on the wireless adapter and select the "Properties" item:

The properties window for the wireless adapter will open. Select the item "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and double-click on it with the left mouse button. After that, you should see the "TCP / IP v4 Protocol Properties" window. We tick the Use the following IP-address and prescribe: IP-address - 192.168.1.2 (the value of the last octet can be anything from 2 to 254) Mask - 255.255.255.0 Gateway - 192.168.1.1 You will also need to register the addresses of DNS servers ... As a rule, I advise you to register google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Yandex (77.88.8.8).

Press the OK button and check the Internet access.

Note: If your router's IP address is not 192.168.1.1, but for example 192.168.0.1, like that of D-Link, then the IP address on the computer will also have to be registered from the same network - 192.168.0.2

Option 2 - The network is recognized, but No Internet access.

At the same time, Skype, Mail.ru-agent or ICQ can work for you. But the pages are not displayed in the browser. In this case, you most likely have not registered or have not been assigned automatically the addresses of DNS servers. As a rule, it looks like this - in the Network and Sharing Center we see the following picture:

That is, there is Wi-Fi, it is connected, the address is received, but there is no Internet. If you go to the "Status of the wireless adapter", you will most likely see the following picture:

That is, there is nothing in the "IPv4 DNS Server" line. Sometimes there may be such an option that the router itself is registered as the DNS server, but the Internet still does not work. In this case, it is possible that the DNS servers are incorrectly configured on the router. The simplest solution in this case is to register the addresses of the DNS servers manually. To do this, right-click on the wireless adapter and select the "Properties" item and select the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" item:

Here you will need to check the box "Use the following DNS server addresses" and write there the addresses of the public DNS servers google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Yandex (77.88.8.8). Press the OK button and check the Internet access.

Wi-Fi connected but no internet

WiFi is a wireless communication technology that has become widespread throughout the world due to its clear advantages. But such an error is often encountered when WiFi is connected, but the Internet is still not there. What to do in this case and how to fix this problem? This is what will be discussed in this article.

Why is there no WAN access when WiFi is connected?

To understand why in some cases there is a connection to a WiFi network, but at the same time there is no access to the Internet, you need to understand how a Wi-Fi router works. Many, when talking about this wireless connection, assume the Internet. But it's not right. The technology itself does not provide for access to global networks. This is a connection for organizing local groups within the same apartment or private house.

The range of the access point, with line of sight, does not exceed 200 meters. And this is only a theoretical indicator. Typically, in practice, the coverage area is much smaller. Thus, just connecting to an access point is not enough to get online. To do this, the base station (WiFi router) must be connected to the Internet using a cable or other connection.

Therefore, when the Wi-Fi is connected, but there is no Internet, the first step is to check the settings of the router (the so-called access point).

What to do if WiFi is connected but there is still no Internet: Video

Access point setting

In order to check the correctness of the router configuration, you need to connect to it. After that, in the browser, enter the address of the router in the address bar. Typically, the address is 192.168.0.1. However, depending on the model, it may differ (sometimes it may be 192.168.1.1).

You can clarify the address of a specific model in the instructions for the device. In addition, as a rule, there is a data sticker on the router itself. If there is no instruction, and there is no sticker, then you can always find out the necessary data on the Internet.

So, after you have registered the desired address in the browser, you should press "Enter". A window will appear asking you to enter your username and password to enter the system. If no one has changed the security settings, then by default it is admin, admin, respectively. Click "Ok". Now we are in the router control system.

First of all, you should check the network settings (Network), in particular, we are interested in the WAN item. This is the global network. Typically, ISPs provide network data automatically. Therefore, in the Internet connection settings, in the WAN Connection Type line, you should select Dynamic IP. This means that the router will automatically receive all the necessary information.

If with such settings on the laptop there is a connection to the WiFi network, but there is still no Internet, then you should enter the data manually. To do this, you need an agreement that you entered into with the provider when connecting. It contains all the information you need to configure. If for some reason there is no such agreement, then you should contact the customer support center. You can find out the operator's number on the official website of the provider.

What data are we interested in? Everything is simple here:

  • IP address.
  • Subnet Mask
  • The main gateway (Default Geteway).
  • Primary DNS server (PrimaryDNS).
  • Secondary DNS server (SecondaryDNS).

To enter the data, we need to change Dynamic IP to Static IP in the WAN settings menu.

After entering these data, you should restart the router and reconnect to it. It is worth noting that it takes about 5-10 minutes for the router to reboot (depending on the model). Therefore, you will have to wait a bit.

Connecting to a WiFi router in Windows 8: Video

Reboot the router

If you use a budget router such as D-Link, TP-Link, Netgear, Acorp, Zyxel, Asus, and so on, then you need to be prepared that they may well malfunction in the event of a power outage. This can be a simple power outage in the house or a power supply disconnection. In any case, after turning on, the router may not connect to the Internet.

It is quite possible, even without such shutdowns, it is just that during long-term operation, the router may lose the WAN connection as a result of overheating (which happens extremely rarely) or freezes for no reason. It should be understood that these are budget models that do not differ in high stability of work.

In any case, if there is a WiFi connection, but there is no Internet, then restart the router. To do this, you need to open the router's management system (you already know how to do this) and enter the Systemtools menu and find the Reboot item. In some cases, a reboot can be done simply by unplugging the device from the outlet for at least 10 minutes.

WiFi works, but the computer does not go online, what if everything is in order with the settings of the router, and restarting it did not help? This suggests that the problem is not in the router, but in the computer itself. There may be several reasons for this:

It often occurs when the wireless network icon in the tray is indicated with limited access, but there is still an Internet connection. In that case, just ignore this one. Just use the connection. Also, limited access can be the result of a weak signal, due to a strong distance from the access point. The solution to the problem is to place the computer closer to the signal source or install a repeater.

Windows firewall or antivirus is blocking the signal

Another reason WiFi is connected but internet on PC is not working is because of Windows security settings. Typically, a built-in firewall system simply blocks access to the global network in order to protect confidential data.

The problem is solved in the following way. We just need to change the type of network. The system provides three options:

  • Home.
  • Working.
  • Public.

In the first case, the system provides free access to files and the ability to access the global network, which is why the Wi-Fi on the laptop is connected, and the Internet does not work. The point is that groups can be protected by a firewall, which simply blocks the global connection to preserve data confidentiality.

In order to switch the network type, you need to enter the "Network Control Center". This is done by right-clicking on the network icon in the tray. In the menu that appears, select "Network Control Center". Next, we see our connection and its type. If you have a work or social group installed, then click on it and in the window that appears, simply select "Home network" and close all windows.

If this does not help, the laptop connects to WiFi, but still there is no Internet, then the firewall can be turned off. However, be warned that this is a built-in security system that protects the system from unauthorized access and malware. It is not recommended to disable it. But if you nevertheless decide to disable the service, then this is done as follows.

In the start menu, open the "Control Panel", then follow this path - System and Security Windows Firewall. In the window that appears in the left menu, you need to open the item "Enabling and disabling the firewall". Here we see that the service can be disabled for home and workgroup, and separately for the public network. Disable the first option and click "OK".

Now, if you have set the home group type, then the firewall will not block the Internet access.

DHCP on the router does not issue an IP address

Typically, the router will automatically provide network information for connecting computers. However, in the case of budget models, this service may not work stably. Because of this, WiFi can be connected, but without internet access. In this case, you just need to enter the data manually. The problem is solved by simply rebooting the router, as described above.

Wi-Fi is connected, but the internet is not working. Pages won't open

It is not uncommon to encounter a problem when, after connecting the device to a Wi-Fi network, the Internet does not work. There is a connection, everything seems to be good, but the Internet does not work. Pages cannot be opened in the browser, programs cannot see the Internet connection. As a rule, this problem appears when setting up a Wi-Fi router. But, there are often times when everything works, there is access to the Internet, and at some point it simply disappears. At the same time, the same laptop, smartphone, or tablet is connected to Wi-Fi, but does not go to the Internet.

I myself have encountered such a problem more than once. There are many reasons and solutions. Therefore, the main thing is to understand everything in order. Understand who is guilty in this situation and fix the problem. It is clear that either the Wi-Fi router (which is most often all), or our device, on which the Internet stopped working, is guilty. It can be a computer, laptop, tablet, phone, etc. It doesn't matter. The result is the same - there is a connection to a wireless network, but there is no Internet.

To make it clear, let's divide the article into three points:

  • What to do if the problem is with the router.
  • Solving the problem on a laptop, stationary computer.
  • And solving the problem with the Internet on mobile devices (tablets, smartphones).

And so, as I wrote above, we need to find the reason why the Internet on our device is not working. As practice shows, the router, the Wi-Fi network itself, is mainly to blame.

If a problem arises when Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work, always check the router and Internet connection first, as I described above. Since the reason very rarely lies in the laptops themselves, smartphones, tablets, and other devices.

If the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work due to problems in the router

How to find out and check? Very simple. You most likely have multiple devices that can be connected to Wi-Fi. We connect them to our network, and if the Internet does not work on any device, then the problem is definitely in the router. Or, you can connect your laptop (smartphone, tablet) to another Wi-Fi network and check the work. After you are convinced that the problem is in the router, you can try to solve it:

  • To get started, just reboot your router. It can even be done several times.
  • It is imperative to make sure that the Internet is paid for, and there are no problems on the side of the provider. To find out, you can call the support of your Internet provider. Also, you can connect the Internet directly to your computer (if possible) and check whether it will work without a router.
  • Check if the wires are correctly connected to the router. Also, look at the LEDs on the router itself (if they are blinking as usual).
  • If the Internet works without a router, then you need to check the settings. Perhaps the settings have flown, and the router cannot connect to the Internet, establish a connection with an Internet provider. I don't know what kind of router you have, so look for instructions for your manufacturer on our website, in the "Configuring the Router" section (top menu).
  • If the Wi-Fi network is not yours, then it is quite possible that some problems have appeared in its operation. Or, for example, a neighbor did not pay for the Internet 🙂

Here is another detailed article on this problem that will definitely come in handy for you: the router does not distribute the Internet over Wi-Fi. What to do?

The laptop is connected to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet access

If the problem appeared only on a laptop or stationary computer, then you need to check some settings. After connecting, you will most likely have a yellow exclamation icon next to the connection icon, and the status "No Internet access", or "Restricted".

And when we try to open the site, we will see the error "The page is not available".

We already have a large article on our website on how to solve the "No Internet access" error in Windows 7. If you have Windows 10, then see this article.

First of all, I would advise you to restart the laptop and check if the automatic obtaining of the IP address is set in the properties of the wireless connection. You can do it like this:

Note. Perhaps you have a DNS error in your browser, or something like that. If this is the case, see the separate article for resolving the "Unable to find the DNS address of the server" error.

What to do if Wi-Fi on the phone (tablet) is connected, but the Internet does not work?

On mobile devices that run on Android, iOS, or Windows Phone, the situation is exactly the same. A wireless network connection can be established, but the pages in the browser will not open.

By the way, on Android devices, the Wi-Fi connection icon may be gray instead of blue. In this case, check if the date and time are set correctly. If you are sure that the problem is with your device, and not with the Wi-Fi network, then restart your mobile device and try to reconnect. Also, check how the Internet will work when connected to other wireless networks.

Be sure to look at the tips from the article Why does the Internet over Wi-Fi not work on an Android tablet or smartphone?

If the advice did not help, then describe your problem in the comments. I will try to advise something.

Wi-Fi network without internet access. We solve the problem using the example of a TP-Link router

Hello, friends. And again, I will write about wireless Wi-Fi networks and setting up a router. An article on how to connect and configure a TP-Link TL-WR841N Wi-Fi router has collected a lot of questions. And as a rule, these are questions of the type: everything works, but the Wi-Fi network without access to the Internet, or the Internet works via cable, but not via Wi-Fi. Well, something like that.

Today, I decided to deal with this problem, I understand why such problems can appear.

Here are a few more questions from the article on setting up a TP-Link TL-WR841N router:

Or, Oleg asked this question:

Hello, here is the problem, everything is connected to wi-fi, it is possible to connect to it both from the computer that distributes it, and from other devices, he sees it and connects, but without access to the Internet, write to HP or here I will be very grateful, I have been suffering for days but nothing. Help.

So I decided to delve into this topic. Oleg has already set everything up, and everything works for him, but first things first.

I think the problem that we will now solve is clear, and you also have, after setting up the Wi-Fi router, the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work, or it works only via a cable from the router, or does not work at all through the router. We will consider this issue using the example of routers from TP-Link, although I have a specific model TP-Link TL-WR841N, but still, I think that the settings are not very different from each other. In principle, if you have some other router, read it anyway, it may come in handy.

Wi-Fi network without internet access. What to do?

If the problem has already happened that the device connects to the Wi-Fi network, but the sites do not open, then first of all we need to find out what is wrong. On the Internet itself, in a router, or in a laptop, tablet, phone, etc.

Checking the Internet connection without a router

Let's go in order. First, we check if the Internet is working, otherwise you never know. To do this, simply plug the network cable directly into your computer, without a router. If the Internet works fine, then everything is fine, let's move on. If not, then solve this problem with the provider.

If everything is fine with the Internet, then there is a problem, either with a router, or with a laptop, or another device that you want to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

We find out if the problem is in the router, or in the laptop.

To do this, it is enough to try to connect not only one laptop to your router, but also a phone, tablet, or other laptop. If all devices find your Wi-Fi network, but when connected, it will not have access to the Internet (this connection status can be seen on a laptop), or websites simply do not open, then there is a problem in setting up the Wi-Fi router.

Well, if, for example, only one laptop does not work with the Internet via Wi-Fi, and other devices connect and open sites, then the problem is in the laptop (not necessarily a laptop, it can be a regular computer with a Wi-Fi receiver).

I hope you managed to find out what the problem is, in the router, or in the laptop. And now we will consider how to solve, or at least try to solve, this or that case.

If the problem is with the laptop

If it turns out that you have a problem with a laptop and a network without the Internet is only on it, then you need to check the settings of the wireless network connection. Perhaps in the process of setting up the router, you changed some settings in the laptop, or you previously configured some other network. Personally, on a laptop with Windows 7, there are parameters for which the laptop automatically receives an IP address and DNS server from the router.

Everything works for me with such settings, my router is configured as written in the article on setting up TP-Link TL-WR841N. In order to check if your wireless connection is configured correctly on your laptop, we do this:

Connect to your network, the laptop should connect, but the icon on the notification bar that shows Wi-Fi will be with a yellow triangle, that is, no internet access. Like this:

Right-click on it and select “Network and Sharing Center”.

Then, in the new window, on the right, click on “Change adapter settings”.

A window will open in which you need to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and click the "Properties" button.

Another window will open in which you need to make sure that the boxes “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS servers automatically” are checked. If not, check these values and click “OK”.

Reboot the laptop, and if your Wi-Fi router is configured correctly (and, as we found out above, it is configured correctly), then the Wi-Fi network on the laptop should work, and the sites should open.

And one more important point: very often the connection can be blocked by antiviruses and Firewalls, so try to disable them.

If the problem is in the Wi-Fi router

Before you start configuring the router, it is advisable to reset the settings to the factory settings. To do this, press something sharp and hold the small button on the back of the router for 10 seconds (more details in this article). Then you can configure the router as described in the TP-Link TL-WR841N setup article (see the link above).

In solving the problem with a network without access to the Internet, we are only interested in the WAN tab. In this section, you configure the Internet connection that we connect to the router, configure the provider, if I may say so.

In SND, most often providers use such connections as Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP. For example, my Kyivstar provider uses Dynamic IP, so I have the following settings on the WAN tab:

And if your provider uses a different connection technology, for example Static IP, PPPoE, or PPTP, then setting up with Dynamic IP, like mine, will not work for you. Because the router simply cannot connect to the Internet, it creates a network, but there is no Internet. And it is in these settings that the whole problem is.

For example, you can consider the problem that Oleg had, about whom I wrote at the beginning of the article. He has a Beeline provider, he is in the settings on the WAN tab, opposite the WAN Connection Type: he chose Dynamic IP and therefore, the Internet did not work for him.

After I began to understand what the problem was, it turned out that Beeline uses L2TP / Russian L2TP technology. After Oleg opposite WAN Connection Type: installed L2TP / Russian L2TP, registered his username and password, and made other settings, everything worked. This is how the router settings for Beeline look like:

As you already understood, the solution to this problem is very simple. You need to call your provider, or look on the Internet, which connection method he uses to connect. And already based on the information that you receive from the provider, you need to configure the router, or rather the WAN tab. Here is also the address of the forum http://forum.tp-linkru.com/viewtopic.php?p=253#p253 which says how to configure TP-Link routers for some Russian providers, such as Beeline \ Corbina, NetByNet, QWERTY, Dom.ru, 2KOM, etc.

If the provider binds to the MAC address

And more about binding to the MAC address. Some ISPs do this, and it may interfere with router configuration. Therefore, you need to connect the router via a network cable to a computer whose MAC address is registered with the provider, go to the MAC Clone tab in the router settings and click on the Clone MAC Address button, click Save.

Update

They shared with me one solution that helped to defeat this problem when connecting over Wi-Fi. The person had Windows 8 and everything worked fine. But he decided to install Windows 7 and after that the problems started. The laptop was connected to the wireless network, but “No Internet access”. All the advice did not help, but this is what helped:

Go to Control Panel \ Network and Internet \ Network and Sharing Center. Then, on the left, select Manage Wireless Networks.

Right click on the network you are having problem connecting to. Select properties.

Go to the Security tab, then click the Advanced Settings button. Check the box next to Enable Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Compliance Mode for this network.

Here is such an update, perhaps this method will help you!

Afterword

I hope that I managed, clearly and step by step, to describe what a problem may arise from when the network works through a router, but without access to the Internet. And how to solve this problem. Perhaps I did not write about something, so I ask you to supplement me in the comments. After all, it is impossible to write about all the ways to solve this problem, because there can be a lot of reasons for its occurrence. Good luck friends!

Solution to the problem: WiFi without internet access

There are several reasons why there is Wi-FI without Internet access. Often the problems lie in routers and access points, but there are also cases when the fault is caused by the services installed in the operating system.

Read on to find out the cause of the problem.

First you need to find out at which stage of the connection the problem arose. In order to make sure that the problem lies in setting up the router, you must try to connect to the Wi-FI network through another Windows laptop or smartphone.

If the error disappears and the Internet connection is present on another device, the user will find out that it is necessary to configure the Wi-FI adapter in the laptop itself.

In the event that access to the network was not obtained from any device, it will be necessary to look for problems in the router, access point, modem or Internet provider.

It is also worth trying to connect the network using a network cable, bypassing routers. This will help you identify problems more specifically.

If you have access to the Internet via cable, then you should change the settings of the router itself or the access point, if not, the problem is with the modem (if any) or the provider.
