Cop in the water with a metal detector. Underwater search with a metal detector. Cop stories

Updated 10.24.2018

The popularity of underwater search with a metal detector ( underwater metal detecting - English) is growing every year. Why? Because, unlike the usual terrestrial search, beaches, coastal areas and the bottom of seas and lakes will never become poorer. Each season, these places are replenished with new and new lost things and jewelry.

City beaches, coastal zone of seas and oceans, bottom soil of seas, lakes and rivers. Could these places be attractive to treasure hunters and underwater metal detectors? Agree, a stupid question. These places hide lost things, coins and jewelry, relics and artifacts in sunken ships, treasures and treasures under a layer of water and sand. The fact is indisputable.

How profitable is the hobby of underwater search and? ..

From unofficial sources of information, it is known that things, coins and jewelry worth about 25 million euros have been lost on the beaches of Italy alone over the past 10 years.

Agree that it is very easy to lose things like a ring, bracelet or chain in water. Try to take off these things yourself in the water, and everything will immediately become clear. Finding a lost item without a metal detector is almost impossible.

It allows professional divers and simple enthusiasts to find jewelry and treasures hidden under the water. Underwater exploration has paid handsome dividends from time to time. Treasure hunters prefer to keep secret the real number and value of the finds. Why? Because a profitable occupation always generates competition and envy.

Depth for underwater search

What is the depth of underwater search? There are no definite and clear boundaries here. Deep search depends on the interests, training and equipment of the searcher.

Thus, for an underwater search at a depth of 2-4m, you only need a mask and a snorkel; for a search at a depth of up to 20m, you will already need scuba gear and some preparation for diving.

To survey the wreckage of ships, it will be necessary to dive to a depth of 75 m (there is a certain limit to the depth of immersion for underwater metal detectors). This requires special equipment and a fairly serious diver training.

This type of underwater search is considered the most adventurous and dangerous. However, there are treasure hunters who methodically and scrupulously search for shipwreck sites and scan the wreckage zones with underwater metal detectors.

The adventurousness of underwater search at shipwreck sites is that a treasure hunter can spend years researching and searching and finding nothing of value.

Or, on the contrary, you can find treasures by accident or after several dives. That's it! Nobody knows what will be revealed after the next storm or over time.

If you want to choose an underwater metal detector, then right now is the time when you need to choose a model, and getting ready for the summer. In this article, you will see short review to the most popular and lesser known models, which I will briefly describe.

There are two types of underwater metal detectors, this is an amphibious metal detector, with the ability to walk both underwater and on land. But, usually the maximum immersion depth of such metal detectors is up to 5 meters. And an underwater metal detector that has the ability to fully submerge in water, 20-30 meters, and is not afraid of salt water. While an amphibious metal detector can flicker into salt water.

Amphibians have an LCD screen, which does not allow them to deeply immerse the bushing, since there is a high probability that there will be damage from water pressure. And many devices drowned themselves in such a search. A new amphibian model appeared in 2012 Minelab CTX 3030, which I described in great detail.

While in a conventional underwater metal detector, you get all the information through headphones, and tuning is done through the rotary knobs.

Just a moment of attention !!! I have an article on our blog already - in it I give simple and clear advice to a beginner when choosing his first device.

Underwater treasure hunt: exploring new horizons

Hello dear readers. I have not posted reports on treasure searches for a long time, and I explain why. I went to the sea to rest, and also mastered new horizons of treasure hunting. In general, there was no time for forest trips, nevertheless, he expanded the aura of his knowledge and practical experience in such a matter as ... underwater search! I am telling you in detail ... your YouTube diary, I made friends with many comrades and like-minded people ... Somehow I was intrigued by one friend who looking for coins, artifacts and relics under the water! After contacting him, I told him that I was intrigued by the underwater search, and would not mind trying it in practice. Our conversation dragged on for a couple of hours. I asked a lot: what is the best way to start, how to make your device underwater, what to wear, how to look underwater ... pretty tired of the interlocutor with answers.

Underwater search is also carried out underwater with a metal detector.

How to start an underwater search

An underwater search begins with an audit of the main equipment - a metal detector. The first thing I had to do was send my E-Track for an upgrade, which took as long as two weeks. Much was altered, only "brains" remained, which were placed in a box that does not allow moisture to pass through. We changed the battery box, and replaced the native battery with three AA batteries. To search underwater, I had to buy an 8-inch coil, which will make it easier to find the target.

"Underwater E-Track" searches underwater

I also had to remove mine and change them to wired underwater... All cable entries to the unit have been redesigned so that no water can enter. In turn, in order to search outside the water, two rods were made to the upper shaft: a short one, for searching underwater, and a long one, for a standard one. . I also had to send a standard coil to remake the plug.

From wireless headphone had to refuse

Hook system for underwater search

While the instrument was being redesigned, I had to start assembling the Hook system for underwater search. For this I bought: 3 food pipes with a diameter of 150 mm. two meters each, and 4 knees, so that in the end result I got a rectangle 120x70 cm. I planted all the pipe joints on moisture-resistant glue - sealant, and glued this whole structure onto a foam sheet, 5 cm thick, and with a density of 30. When the glue dried up, I got an air receiver.

DIY Hook system

On one side of the tube, I drilled two 13mm holes so that the fittings used in tubeless car wheels could be inserted, and another hole on the other side. Also, on four sides, I attached small rings with puffs so that a rope or various devices could be attached to them.

Inside the structure, I bought a sealed food box for 10 liters, in order to accommodate a low pressure compressor of 105 l / min, and a helium accumulator for 33 Amps. After talking with a friend and consulting, I bought two batteries and Charger to them. I connected the compressor and the receiver with a food-grade flexible tube, at the outlet from the receiver I attached a five-meter-long tube, at the end of which I attached a lung tube that scuba divers use.

Underwater search equipment

To be in the water for several hours and dive to a depth of 4 - 5 meters, I had to buy wet wetsuit 7 + 7, with the expectation that I will dive in the fall and spring. To swim normally underwater, you need loading, so I bought belt with weights of 14 kg... To see well and swim normally, I had to buy mask and fins.

When testing the system, I encountered such a problem as a hard bottom cover, for this I had to buy a garden shovel. Also, in order to explore the coastline, I purchased for a beach search.

The first finds under water

It took me two (2) months to collect all the gear! Much had to be altered, improved, learned, learned and learned. And, having learned to confidently swim underwater and have tested all systems and components in every possible way, I decide to make the first underwater searches. I choose the place to look for the Southern Bug river, or rather, the old beach, where life once raged.

The place of my first underwater searches was the Southern Bug River

One morning, I load all the equipment into the car and go to the place of search. Having gone to the beach, I realized that local shepherds were already waiting for me. But, it doesn't matter, after answering all their questions, what I want to do, I unload everything from the car and get ready for the underwater search.

I just went into the water and turned on the device, and the whole earth beeps, where I don't put the device everywhere the signal! So many ... beer caps and cans lids with jars, I did not even lift in places where people used to celebrate May holidays 🙂 For several decades, the bottom of this beach is simply covered with metal products. I think this is bad, both for the ecosystem and for the people themselves.

Along with this rubbish, coins, late tips and modern walkers are also common. I don't want to describe each of these goals, since there were a lot of them. Also, in a few hours of underwater search, I became the owner of 300 grams of cargo, from different types fishing tackle.

Loads from fishing tackle - how without it under water?

But, most importantly, for all my labors, Grandpa Neptune opened me ... gold earring and chain... At the end of the day, I also managed to raise the underwater watch by Casio.

In addition to the finds, there is something to rejoice under the water: the underwater element is very beautiful, albeit littered with. Several times fish swam up to me, wondering what I was looking for here and who I was. I didn’t tell them, but having dived a lot and planted two batteries, I stopped my water campaign. As always, I upload my findings and take pictures.

The final finds of the day in one photo

I think that my first underwater search was a success, I also discovered another type of relaxation and good time, finally making friends with my metal detector with water! Satisfied with my first dive with MD under water, I suggest you dive with me into the abyss of water ... Watch my video report:

Search for coins, jewelry and artifacts underwater - effective method increase your chances of finding more goals. Also, combining search on land and in water is especially pleasant in summer, when you have the opportunity not only to do your favorite hobby, but also to plunge or swim.

Underwater search is different from normal detecting and can be more difficult than you thought. You also need to buy a waterproof metal detector. When you have the right detector and follow these rules, you are guaranteed interesting finds.

1. Plan ahead.

It is very important to properly plan your search so as not to waste your time and energy. The first thing to consider is the time of year when you go to dig. It is logical that you need to look for something in the water when it has already warmed up. Of course, if you have a reliable wetsuit, you can search during the cold season as well. Consider also weather reports. Searching underwater in a rainstorm or hurricane is not safe.

2. Choose where to search.

To increase your chances of making good finds, you need to figure out where the most popular areas on the beach are. This also applies to underwater search. Usually, most of the finds are where people "walk on water", that is, the depth where they do not swim yet. Also good for finding the docks of pleasure boats, catamarans and the like. If the beach is touristy, it is worth checking out the areas around water attractions or water sports facilities (diving towers).

3. Learn underwater search techniques.

When you're first starting out, you need to become familiar with instrumental search techniques and techniques. You can, for example, follow a line along the coast, moving at meter intervals. Check all natural depressions and holes in the bottom, as there may be anything of value in there. Also, underwater search engines sometimes use special scoops - narrow so as not to pick up mud, and if they are looking shallowly, then scuba (sieve on a stick) and floating rafts with an improvised sieve, which help to separate targets from dirt.

4. Search during the daytime.

Instrumental search in water is already quite difficult. At night, everything becomes much more complicated, since visibility under water is much worse than in the air, and even strong lanterns do not always help well. So if you are aiming for an underwater search, then start in the early morning or when the day is already in full swing.

5. It is not necessary to practice underwater diving.

Before starting an underwater treasure hunt, many recommend taking a few scuba diving lessons. But for this you must have special equipment, for the purchase of which you do not always have the money. However, judging by the experience of many search engines, it is not necessary to take diving lessons. Most of the targets are hidden at a depth of 1-1.5 meters, and in order to find them, you do not need to buy scuba gear.

Often many glorious and valuable things are found under the water, because the surroundings are explored up and down. Sea and fresh waters still keep their secrets and treasures.

Since there are not many treasure hunters underwater, your chances of finding treasure are much greater here. If you haven’t tried an underwater metal detector yet, it is worth giving it a try. You can take a metal detector on vacation to the sea. There are many countries in the world where instrument search is not prohibited, and besides, it is warm there all year round, and thousands of vacationers now and then lose something on the beaches.

Here are some underwater search tips that can help you.

1. Choose the right metal detector.

The decision, first of all, should be taken after deciding where you will search - in salt sea water or in fresh water of the surrounding rivers and lakes. If you are going to go from time to time to freshwater bodies, we recommend

VLF device, for example, a good diver Tesoro tiger shark or Minelab Excalibur II. You can dive up to 3 meters deep even with Minelab CTX 3030, and with a new Minelab EQUINOX 800... These metal detectors detect even small targets such as rings or bracelets.

To search in seawater, you will need a Pulse Metal Detector (PI). It behaves better on salty sands and in water, easily builds up from interference. However, they are not as sensitive as VLF and there is a loss of depth. Here you can recommend one of the most affordable underwater PI metal detectors - Tesoro Sand Shark, as well as doing well on land Minelab SDC2300.

2. Choose the right accessories.

For example, make sure your headphones are waterproof and that the pinpointer can work in water (or salt water like the XP MI-6) without any problems. You will also need a bag for transporting the metal detector, and in it - a rag or special towels for the detector. And, most likely, you will need either a scub or a special scoop like the BlackAda SandScoop. Working with such a shovel in the sand, you will save a lot of time.

If you want to search at any time of the year, or in central Russia (where there is almost no summer), then a wetsuit will certainly come in handy.

3. Use the correct settings.

Customize the metal detector for each specific place of "spearfishing". Select the target category you are going to dig and adjust the settings to suit it.

To check if the settings are correct, you can run tests on the type of product you are looking for. Place the jewels in a plastic bag before burying them at the bottom and tie them with a cord - just in case, so as not to leave them to the luckier treasure hunters.

4. Use the correct search technique.

How you search with your metal detector is also important. If on land you can wave the coil of the device quite quickly, then under water such movements will only raise the dregs from the bottom. Work slowly, consistently covering the intended area. Don't frantically dig out a target if it sounds under the coil. Movements should also be calm, but be prepared for the fact that sand or silt will still rise from the bottom. Sometimes you have to search for a target solely by touch.

5. Search in the right places.

When deciding where to go to dive, first of all consider the places where the most people pass or rest. The more people there are, the higher the chance of finding valuable things. There is an option with an underwater cop in historical places, since the reservoirs even in busy cities are not considered an archaeological site.

6. Search at the right time.

Firstly, it is better to go on an underwater search during the day, at night it is much darker under the water, and a flashlight - a light in the water column - attracts too much attention.

And secondly, there is a time when it is more convenient to search on the beaches. It's low tide on the seaside. It is sometimes a good idea to search after a storm, when waves wash away large layers of sand or throw all kinds of things on the shore. As for freshwater reservoirs, during floods, for example, it is cold and very pointless to search, because there is a lot of alluvial debris in the water.

If you're lucky and the timing is right, the finds can be stunning.

As with any instrument search, underwater search becomes more successful with experience. But if you follow the suggested advice, then you think you will have a good start!
