How to set up a guarantor modem. Setting up a router: detailed instructions for dummies. Installing Wi-Fi in Win7 OS in automatic mode

Setting up a router is not an easy procedure, but we are ready to help you understand all its intricacies. Just read the instructions below carefully, and then in just a few minutes you can easily set the desired parameters and get started!

#1. Connection

Before you independently configure the router through a computer, you need to connect it:

  • Plug the internet cable into the WAN / Internet port;
  • Install the end of the network wire to the LAN port of the device;
  • Place the other end into the connector on the PC;
  • Plug the model into a power outlet and press the power switch.
  • Ready!

We hope that this brief instruction helped you figure out the first steps, but for more details about the connection process, you can read on the website. Now you can safely proceed to the instructions, which tell you how to properly configure the WiFi router yourself.

# 2. Login to the web interface

We want to warn you that the setting WiFi router online through a browser can only be done after turning on the device. When you activate the work, the distribution of the wireless network with factory parameters (login, password) will begin. You can change the settings of the router in a special web interface that each device is equipped with.

Important! To open the configuration interface, you need to connect your computer to the device. Internet is not required.

To open the site for configuring the router, do the following:

  • Open your browser;
  • Enter the IP address in the address bar;
  • In the window that opens, log in - enter your username and password.
  • The address, network name and pin code for entering are indicated on a sticker located on the back of the router.
  • Some devices do not have login information - you need to set it after logging into the interface.

Please note that some manufacturers set the parameters on their own - then nothing needs to be done during the initial start-up.

# 3. Setup Instructions

Most routers have a special wizard option that will help you quickly set the desired parameters. For example, here, the item is called " Quick setup»:

The most important thing you need to configure is:

  1. Internet connection;
  2. Wi-Fi is a network.

Let's tackle the first parameter first. Our main goal is, of course, the work of the Internet on devices:

  • Open the tab with general parameters... Most often they are located in the WAN or Internet section;
  • Specify the type of connection of the provider, username and password - you can see the information in the agreement;
  • If the provider requires you to go through the binding of the MAC address, specify the necessary data (from the contract).

Important! If the provider uses (DHCP), then the connection to the network will occur in automatic mode... Skip this section of the instructions, you do not need to reconfigure the router.

  • Open the section called Wi-Fi. It may be called otherwise - Wireless / Wireless / Wireless mode;
  • In the field "Network name" or "SSID" enter a new name (only in Latin);
  • In the "Wireless network key" field, enter your invented identification code;
  • Protection type - WPA2 - Personal;
  • Change the region to the location on the appropriate line;
  • Save your changes.

If you want to change the settings of the router, we recommend that you change the factory access code. This is important if you want to protect yourself from unauthorized entry. Here's how you can do it:

  • Find the section for security or privacy settings;
  • Change the data to a new, reliable code.

All of the above instructions apply if you need to set up a new router instead of the old one or install completely new equipment. By the way, we suggest you watch a general video on how to set up a router. It is perfect for those who are not confident in their abilities, because it shows the entire process step by step and in detail!

Now you know everything about how to set up the Internet on a Wi-Fi router through a computer - use our article to achieve the result. Just follow the instructions and in a few minutes you will be successfully online.

Turn on the search for Wi-Fi networks on your gadgets, laptops and computers - and you will see how popular wireless access technologies are, and how densely they have penetrated into apartments and offices. The range of some routers is sometimes striking: when searching for networks, you can easily find a network even, for example, on the other side of the street and connect to it. And dual-band routers allow you to avoid collisions and free up the air using a higher frequency.

Typically, laptops, smartphones, TVs and gaming gadgets require an internet connection. Fundamental differences in the method of connection have operational Windows systems, Android and iOS. Let's consider them in order.

We connect a laptop and a computer to our router via Wi-Fi

To connect to wifi, you need at least know the password (data encryption key in case of network and traffic encryption). Consider connecting a laptop or stationary computer to an already configured and functioning router remotely.

Our goal is to connect to the internet and to local network.

We check that:

  • The router is connected correctly to the ISP and distributes the Internet.
  • The Wi-Fi adapter is installed, functions correctly, the drivers are installed and fresh.

Connecting via WPS

The easiest, no knowledge required, way to connect to the router is through WPS... It can be hardware (using a hardware button) or software (using a pin code).

The button is pressed once and not for long (just a second press) both on the router and on the WI FI adapter.

After one or two minutes, the router and the adapter themselves "negotiate" among themselves about the addresses and encryption password, and the Internet becomes available on the device.

Sometimes the device may not have a WPS button, but still support it. In this case, the WPS PIN is indicated on the label: when setting up the wireless network, the OS will ask you to enter it.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the connection, it is deceiving: when activating the connection to wi-fi using WPS, three procedures are involved:

  • generating a key (password);
  • encrypting the generated password
  • imposing additional encryption on the channel using a certificate.

Due to the incomplete transparency of this procedure - you do not know the password and connection parameters - it is recommended to use the standard connection option with the key input.

If the router was not initially configured, then by entering the WPS PIN, you can configure all the network parameters as desired: its name and key.

Standard option for connecting laptops and computers to the router

Let's consider how to connect to wireless internet through a pre-configured router.

All modern laptops are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. But a stationary computer should be equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter.

Pay attention to:

(1): all available wifi networks... We select our network (2), click (3) Connection to connect to the modem and, accordingly, the Internet.

A window appears prompting you to enter a password (security key); and if the key is entered correctly, an icon of a successful Internet connection will appear:

Your computer can successfully use local resources home network and access to the Internet through your router.

Connecting smartphones and gadgets to the router

For smartphones and mobile gadgets, connecting to the Internet through a router is an opportunity to save on traffic and, accordingly, money when paying for services to the operator. 4G network requires more resources and battery power than wireless access, therefore, the smartphone will "live" longer with the Internet from a router without a GSM service provider. Any smartphone equipped with a Wi-Fi module can connect to the Wi-Fi of your router.

Let's consider how to connect when the Internet is configured and distributed by an access point.

Android OS

Let's demonstrate step by step how to connect the Internet via a router using an example of a smartphone with Android OS.

  1. In the settings of your smartphone, turn on the Wi-Fi module, available networks will be automatically scanned.
  2. Select your network from the list.
  3. Enter the network key (which was entered at the stage of setting up the router).
  4. If the connection is successful, the corresponding signature "Connected" will appear.

If you cannot connect to a network device, restart both the device and the smartphone. Check the settings of your Internet distribution device and try to reconnect to the wireless network as described above.

IOS OS

We will analyze step by step how to connect gadgets to the router with operating system iOS.

In the "Settings" you should select the "Basic" section, where to check the inclusion wireless module: when you move the slider to "ON", automatic search available to connect networks. Choose your network and enter the password (network key).

If the key is correct, the iPad and iphone will successfully connect to the Internet.

Connecting to an unknown network device

Above, we discussed how to connect to a home access point, the parameters of which are known. However, there are situations that require remote connection to someone else's equipment, without data on the key and connection parameters.

Let's consider how to connect via Wi-Fi to a router in this case.

Password guessing

Home network users, due to inexperience, little knowledge and laziness, rarely compose complex keys. Therefore, the question of how to connect to a wireless network is not difficult to solve: there are a number of programs for selecting a key using a dictionary. For example, WiFICrack.

This program also solves the problem of how to connect to a hidden network that does not send broadcast packets. It is enough to scan the broadcast, tick the boxes of those networks, the connection to which you are interested in, download the dictionary (you can also use the built-in one) and start selection.

As a result, the file Good.txt will be created, containing the names of the networks and their keys, which we managed to find.

Interception and cracking of a password

Programs for capturing and decrypting packets of wireless networks are also available via the Internet. The essence of the method: even in the absence of correct authentication, the network device exchanges packets with the connected gadget, which contain the encrypted key. The allocation of such a packet and their decryption is the way to reveal the key.

This is a class of programs for advanced users with knowledge of computer security.

One example of this class of programs is Airslax.

Works with WPA / WPA2 traffic decryption and WEP encryption. The numbers indicate:

  1. Scanning the air, finding all networks, their signal levels, encryption options and other features.
  2. Decryption target selection. Networks are ranked in the list in ascending order of their signal strength.
  3. The process of intercepting the selected network.
  4. Disconnecting the client from the point to initiate a re-authentication process: the first 4 packets contain the encrypted key.
  5. Password guessing for a captured WPA / WPA2 encrypted hashshake using a dictionary.
  6. Saving the results.
  7. Automatic key guessing for WEP encryption: a large number of DATA packets are collected, and authentication is tried for every 5000 collected DATA packets.
  8. Points are scanned here with the possibility of authorization via WPS.
  9. Using Reaver or Bully, the pin code is selected.
  10. Automatic operation mode.

Security of your own network equipment

Having casually examined the main methods of standard and unauthorized connection, let us recall the basic basic requirements for your own equipment.

  • Change the default usernames and their passwords on the router. Many people neglect or forget to follow this simple procedure, leaving a loophole for attackers.
  • Enable encryption, which is the most difficult to decrypt - WPA2. It will significantly complicate and increase the hacking time; attackers would prefer a simpler network to connect.
  • Restrict access by mac address. Although spoofing the address network card is not a big deal, the limitation on the poppy address is a necessary procedure for protecting the internal safety loop.
  • Change the Wi-Fi access key at least every six months. Even if attackers still connect to your network equipment, connecting regularly and repeating the hacking procedure will force them to find a more accessible victim. This will not save you from unauthorized connections, but will significantly reduce the likelihood of hacking. Safe and fast connections for you!

Wi-Fi provides fast wireless Internet access without being tied to wires or a modem. You only need a device with a Wi-Fi module - using it, several devices can connect to the network at once.

For correct setting the router does not need special education

Buying and configuring a router will take a little time and does not require any special knowledge. In order to consider in detail all the stages of connection, we will use the settings for the models of the TP-Link brand, the most popular among a large number of users.

Before moving on to installing Wi-Fi, you need to figure out how to put your router and make sure it is working properly.

How to connect a Wi-Fi router? First, we choose a place for him - the main thing is that he does not stand on the table where the computer is located or on system unit, because in such cases, interference often occurs. Therefore, we move it slightly away from other equipment and place it closer to the center of the house so that the waves cover as much of the area as possible.

To find out how much the router covers the room, after installation, download special applications- they will make the device work as efficient as possible.

On back side the router has the following connectors (in the basic version):

  • 4 Lan - port for connecting to a PC. A maximum of 4 computers can be connected to one device at the same time. We insert the cable into one of the ports, connect the other part to the connector on the back of the system unit.
  • A cable with an Internet connection is installed in the WAN cable slot.
  • We plug the power cable into the socket.

Also here you will see a reset and an on / off button - their functions are clear. When you figured out the wires and inserted them where needed, an icon about a new connection will appear on the bottom of the desktop. Now we need to find out if your PC has installed the router correctly.

Device Manager - setting up a computer to work with a router

How to enter the settings of the router and check if the computer correctly recognized the equipment. We use the Control Panel, dwell on the chapter Network Connections - if you have Windows XP, in Windows Vista / 7/8 this section is designated as "Network and Control", "Network and Sharing Center".

Here the actual connections will appear - select "Local Area Connection", look at the properties. You will now see a list of components where you stop at "Internet Protocol TCP / IP". Here we check how the checkboxes are indicated:

  • Usually, the lines are highlighted in which we are talking about automatically obtaining an IP address and DNS server.
  • For some providers, information is entered manually, so you will see the completed lines. Check them against the data in the contract or the instructions for the device, enter the correct numbers if they do not match.

The next step is to move on to how to enter the settings of the router.

Browser and parameters entry

The router is configured using a browser.

V address bar enter your IP address. In most cases, this is a combination of 192.168.1.1 - the standard version of the address, which, however, is different for some ISPs. After pressing Enter, you will see the Wi-Fi router settings. If this does not happen, then the IP address does not fit and you need to enter other numbers.

How to find the IP address:

  • In the papers or on the back of the router.
  • If, when entering the properties of "Local Area Connections", the IP-address field was previously filled in, and there was no automatic detection, copy it.
  • Try checking other addresses - the last two values might look like 0.1, 0.2, or 1.2.
  • Write in command line(it opens through "Start") action cmd, and then - ping 168.x.1, and you will be shown all the parameters of the device.

After entering the IP, a form for entering your username and password appeared in front of you. We fill both lines here with the word admin, after which the parameters of the router itself will appear.

Flashing equipment

First of all, setting up a router begins with flashing it to current version- after the release of each model, a lot of time passes, during which improvements are made, errors are corrected. Therefore, installing the most current version will avoid operational problems.

You can get it on the manufacturer's website. Download the file and go to the parameters again (you know how to enter the settings of the router through the browser) in System Tools, subsection Firmware Upgrade. Here we select "Browse ...", download the file and after clicking Upgrade, the update will begin.

Clarification: the firmware is optional, so you can do without it - it will not interfere with the operation of the device.

Internet connection setup

After rebooting the Wi-Fi equipment (it will happen automatically), we proceed to setting the parameters for accessing the World Wide Web. In the System Tools section, select the Password tab and enter, at your discretion, new data to enter the settings.

Now, in the Network section, we stop at the WAN graph, where we select the type of connection provided by the provider. Mostly this is a dynamic IP (Dynamic), but in some cases this option is not correct.

How do I know my connection type?

It is indicated in the documents along with the rest of the data for setting up a Wi-Fi router. If they are absent, find them on the website of the Internet service provider or contact a specialist by phone.

Note: if you need a different type of connection (not dynamic), add yourself Additional information into the fields located in this form after selecting the required parameter.

The rest of the fields when you select the Dynamic IP option will be filled in automatically.

Let's go to the Wireless section. We put a tick in front of Enable (if there is such a line), in the Wireless Network Name or SSID we come up with a name for the connection, which will be seen by everyone who wants to use Wi-Fi. Below there may be a tab for selecting your country - we indicate it, save the changes made and proceed to the next stage of our configuration.

Wireless Security - filling in this part of the parameters should be taken seriously, because here you can secure your network from unauthorized access. We select WPA / WPA2 and set a password in the PSK Password field - without it, no one can establish a connection with your Wi-Fi.

Optional: MAC Address and copying it

Sometimes providers tie a point Wi-Fi access to the PC network card. This equipment has a personal MAC-code, which we copy into the settings of the router - for this we need to press the "Clone MAC - Code" button.

Where can I find it? Depending on the manufacturer, the address can be located in different sections, mainly in Wireless. In the most common models of TP-Link, the MAC address is located in the Network folder, to copy it, you need to select a special column.

Wi-Fi router setup completed successfully. Confirm the reboot - the router will offer you to do it, then all the changes will take effect.

Wireless access is convenient, practical, it is easy to install such an Internet in your home, it takes a little time and a drop of effort. Now you know how to go to the router settings and fill in all the required fields to receive quick access no matter what part of the room you are in, and use the Internet on any device that supports this technology.

Connecting to a wireless network is the most convenient way get Internet access at a good speed without unnecessary wires. However, in order to enjoy all the benefits wireless connection, you must first understand how to set up Wi-Fi on a laptop.

Turning on the adapter

Before you start creating a new connection, you need to check if the Wi-FI adapter is turned on.

The function key for turning on / off the adapter for each laptop model has its own. For example, on ASUS laptops the combination is Fn + F2, and on the Acer it is Fn + F3. On some Lenovo models, the adapter status is controlled by a hardware switch located on the front panel.

To determine which key you have, look at the F1-F12 row. One of the buttons should have an icon - an antenna that sends out a signal. Press this button in combination with the Fn key and verify that the Wi-Fi adapter indicator light changes from red to blue or green.

What if the Wi-Fi adapter won't turn on?

There are situations when, after pressing the function key, the adapter does not turn on. Typically, this problem occurs for one of the following reasons:

  • Incorrectly installed drivers.
  • Incorrect system operation.
  • Laptop virus infection.

Until you eliminate the cause, the question of how to set up wai wai in a laptop will not receive a positive resolution. More often than not, the problem is wrong installed drivers, but it will not be superfluous to check the system for viruses. If no malicious applications are found, reinstall the drivers Wi-Fi module and try turning it on again.

How to set up Wi-Fi on a laptop

Configuring on Windows XP

To configure, it is enough to correctly specify some parameters of the wireless connection:

If on demon wired connection a password is set, then you will need to specify the security key, after which the connection will be established.

Setting up on Windows 7

We figured out XP, now let's see how to configure wireless network on a laptop with installed Windows 7. There are practically no fundamental differences:

On this wifi setting on a Windows 7 laptop is complete. When you connect, you enter the security key and get access to the Internet.

For Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, there is no difference in setting from the seventh version. The list of networks available for connection can be called directly from the notification panel - there is a special Wi-Fi icon in the tray.

Video setting up wifi on a laptop

In this article, I will show you how to set up wi-fi from scratch. First, you need to configure the wireless network on the router, and then on the laptop. With a simple step by step instructions even a beginner will be able to configure the Internet to TP-Link routers and D-Link, which are most common in the CIS.

Configuring a wi-fi router

Step 1. We connect the router to the network using a power supply. Turn on the power with the ON button, if the router has such a button.

Step 2. We connect the router to a laptop or computer using an ethernet cable (patch cord) that comes with the router. It is necessary to connect the cable to the port of the computer's network card and to the LAN1 port of the router. (In no case in the WAN port - it will not work through it)

Step 3. We check that on the computer, in the properties of the network card, we have chosen to automatically obtain an IP address. To do this, go here: "Start" -> " Control Panel» -> « Network and Sharing Center» -> «» -> « LAN connection»

Attention! In chapter " Changing adapter settings»You may have multiple connections displayed. For example, Local Area Connection, Local Area Connection 2, Wireless network connection"," Bluetooth Network Connection 2 " etc. How to find the right one among these connections?

At first, the default wired connection in Windows 7 and 8 is called Local Area Connection. If no one managed to rename it manually, then it will be called that way. Unless there may be a number at the end - most often "2". This is in the event that several network cards are installed in the computer (relevant for stationary computers, because in a laptop in 99% of cases there is only one wired network adapter from the factory)

Secondly, the connection we need should be active, since you connected the computer and the turned on router using a cable: the connection icon should glow in a bright color (usually blue if your Windows uses a standard icon pack), i.e. the icon should not be shaded. See picture:

Here, we have found the required active wired network connection.
Step 3.1. Push right click mouse on the active wired connection we need and select "Properties":

Step 3.2. In the window that opens, click the "Properties" button:

Step 3.3. Select with the left mouse button " Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) " and click the next button "Properties" at the bottom:

Step 3.4. We set both switches to the upper positions so that there is “ ... ... ... automatically»:

Step 3.5. Press the "OK" button to save the settings.

Step 4. Open the connection window again:

Step 4.1. Press the button "Details":

Step 4.2... In the window that opens, we find out the IP address of the default gateway:

In most cases, it is equal to 192.168.1.1

Step 5... Open the browser to access the router's web interface.

Step 5.1... In the address bar, enter the gateway address and press Enter:

Step 5.2... Enter your username and password:

Attention! You can find out the login details in the instructions for your device. The set with the router may contain both instructions on paper and in PDF-document format on the enclosed disk.

If the instruction is lost, you can try to download it on the manufacturer's website. For example, http://dlink.ru, http://asus.com, http://tplink.com.

Often in a new device, the default login = admin and password = admin. It also happens that login = admin, and the password is empty.

Step 5.3. After you have entered the router's web interface, open the wireless network (wi-fi) settings:

(illustrated in example TP-Link TL-WR841ND and D-Link DIR-300 NRU)

Step 6. The actual setting of the wireless connection.

Step 6.1... Disable WI-FI protected setup, because this feature is a serious security hole and could allow an attacker to hack into your Wi-Fi network and gain access to your information.

Step 6.2... We check that the Wi-Fi network is enabled: the “Enable wireless” checkbox is checked if it is D-Link.

Step 6.3... We set a name for our wireless network.

If the default is dlink or home, then it is recommended to specify some original name in order to avoid confusion with the networks of neighbors of the same name.

Step 6.4... We set the security parameters. We strongly recommend using the following options:

  • security mode WPA2 ;
  • encryption type AES;
  • key type PSK(aka Personal Key).

After specifying all the parameters, do not forget to click the save settings button!

On a TP-Link router:

in D-Link:

Setting up Wi-Fi on a computer (laptop)

In this section, we will show you how to set up wi-fi on a windows 7 laptop.

Step 1... Find on the taskbar near the clock icon network connections and click on it with the left mouse button once. A list of available wireless networks will open:

Step 2... Find your wireless network in the list (it will have the name that you specified in the previous paragraph) and click on this network with the left mouse button.

Step 3... Leave the "Connect automatically" checkbox checked and click the "Connect" button:

Step 4... Enter the security key of the Wi-Fi network. This is the character set that you specified in the "Network Key" field. After entering the key, click "OK":

After clicking "OK", it connects to your wireless network.

After a few seconds, the previous window will disappear, and the network connections icon near the clock will change its appearance.

Now, when you click on the network connections icon, you will see that the computer is connected to your wi-fi network, but at the top you can see the inscription “ Without internet access", Because we have not yet configured the Internet on the router:

Setting up the Internet on the router

We have configured wifi network on the router and connected to it from the computer. We just need to help the router see the Internet so that the router can distribute the Internet to any devices that connect to it via wi-fi or cable.

Step 1... In order for the Internet to appear on the computers, you need to set up a connection with the provider on the router. We show using the example of the same D-Link

Step 1.1. We type in the address bar the ip-address of the router

Step 1.2... Enter your username, password and click "Log in":

Step 2... We go to the Internet settings section. Have different manufacturers routers, it can be called differently: WAN Setup, Internet settings, etc. In our D-Link, this section is called "Internet Setup":

Step 3. We get to the WAN port settings section.

Step 3.1... Uncheck the "Enable Access Point Mode" checkbox.

Attention! Other manufacturers may call this parameter "Disable NAT". The bottom line is that the Access Point mode disables NAT and turns the router into an access point. This option is useful if this router is connected not to a provider, but to another one of yours..

Step 3.2... We select the type of connection with the provider.

To find out what settings you need to choose to connect specifically to your provider, you can:

  • in the contract;
  • on the provider's website;
  • by calling hotline provider

The most commonly used type these days is Dynamic IP.

Step 3.3... If your ISP only allows connection from a registered MAC address, you have 2 ways to resolve the issue.

  1. Go to the provider's office with a passport and register a new MAC address;
  2. Specify the MAC address in the MAC address field network board the device from which you successfully connected to the Internet before purchasing the router. Typically, this is the MAC address of the computer's wired network card.

Step 3.4... We indicate the DNS servers, if the instructions from the provider require it.

Step 3.5... We select the MTU value. If the provider does not require to change given value, we advise you to leave it as it is: 1500.

Step 3.6... We save the settings

Attention! If you have lost the document of the agreement with the provider, which contains the details, then in extreme cases you can always drive up to the office of your provider with a passport and find out all the comprehensive information: connection type, MAC address, login, password, MTU, etc.
