Connecting upvel router. Setting up and changing the Wi-Fi password on Upvel routers. Its functionality includes

In recent years, the Internet has surrounded us everywhere: at work, while studying, at home and on vacation. This means that you need to provide free and constant access to global network for all computers and devices. The solution to this problem can be entrusted to modern routers. Installation of this equipment does not take much time, and a well-thought-out technical setting allows even a beginner to cope with this task.

Upvel series routers receive Internet connection via cable from the provider and distribute it over the local Wi-Fi network. They have a fairly acceptable data transfer rate and most of them have, in addition to the main Wi-Fi network, a couple of additional ones - "guest" ones. The Upvel router has a function for adjusting the flow rate, when some of them can be limited or disabled.

If you are a site owner, then of course, you just need to set up high-quality and reliable access to the Internet. By the way, let's say that fast website hosting can be done using HandyHost services. So, you settled on Upvel routers, chose and purchased a suitable model. Now you need to figure out the connection and settings.

First stage: connection

You will need a patch cord (included in the purchase package), a router and a computer (laptop). Your actions:

  • Remove the provider's cable from the computer, and in its place insert the patch cord;
  • There is a socket on the back of the router, into which the second end of this cable is inserted;
  • We connect the provider's cable and the power supply cable to the router;
  • We turn on the router.

The whole system will look something like this:

Second step: setup

Manual configuration of the router is done in the web interface.

V address bar browser, enter the IP address. This combination is the same for everyone: 192.168.10.1.
In the window that opens, fill in the fields:

  • Username: admin;
  • Password: admin

If you previously made settings and entered data, then you need to restart the router. For this, there is a small "Reset" button on the rear panel. Press it and hold it for a few seconds. After resetting to factory settings - continue working.

When changing the password, you need to do the following: open the "Service" tab and the "Password" line. We register here New Password, and in the line "Name" - login. Click the "Apply" button.
It looks like this:

Now go to the "Basic settings" tab and enter the parameters:

  • "SSID" is the name of your Wi-Fi network (you can leave it as it is, or you can enter a fictitious name).
  • The bottom line "Protection", item "Authentication", set WPA2-PSK and fill in the "Key" line - this will be your password for the local Wi-Fi network. The recommended combination for the password is 8-12 characters. In order to make it easier to remember, you can enter serial number device (it is indicated on the packaging of the S / N router .......)
  • Press the "Apply" button

Open the "Basic settings" tab and select "Interface" from the list

The next window prompts us to select the settings for the WAN interface. Depending on what type of connection you have with your provider, mark the required parameter.

1. Consider PPPoE connections:

  • The line "Internet connection type" - PPPoE
  • Line "Username" - write down the login that is specified in your agreement with the provider (it was drawn up when the access point was connected to the Internet);
  • Line "Password" - password, also according to the agreement;
  • String "MTU" - 1472
  • Line "Clone MAC-address" - mark "Learn MAC-address".
  • We write and save with the "Apply changes" button.

2. If the connection type is DHCP:

  • The line "Internet Connection Type" is DHCP.
  • Line "Clone MAC-address" - select "Learn MAC-address" and also select the MAC-address of your computer.
  • Apply button

Save your settings so that you can restore them in case of emergency. To do this, open the "Service" tab and go down to the line "Save / load settings".

Press the button "Save settings" and your data will be saved in the specified location on your hard drive. The "Restore settings" button in this window assumes the restoration of not yours, but the factory settings! And in order to restore your settings, you will need to go to the "Browse" folder, find the saved file and press the "Load settings" button. Check the picture:

Stage three: enabling WiFi

The data transfer rate of the Upvel router is 150 Mbps, it works from external antenna, in the 2.4 GHz band. We need to set up a wireless network to connect laptops, tablets and other mobile devices to the Internet.
We continue working in the Upvel web interface. Go to the "Network" tab. The first line in it is "Basic settings". Entering the parameters basic setting networks:

  • Line " Wi-Fi module"- mark" On ";
  • Line "Mode" - select AP;
  • String "SSID" - come up with a name for your network and write it down (in Latin letters);
  • Line "Frequency channel" - you can select all modes "B + G + N"; (as in the picture) or leave only "B + G";
  • Line " Bandwidth"- leave" Auto ";
  • Line "Broadcast" - it is recommended to leave "On", as not all devices can "see" the hidden network and connect;
  • Line "WMM" - for better speed, leave "On"

  • The line "Protection" - "Encryption" - select the protection parameters and enter your password for wireless network... Later, the same password will be written in each device that will connect to your local network Wi Fi.
  • Don't forget to click the Apply Changes button.

Your new Upvel router is all connected and configured. Now check the availability of a connection in laptops and other gadgets, enter your password and go to the Internet at any time!

In this article, we will tell you how to connect a universal UPVEL router to the Internet if you have an ADSL connection, as well as how to set up a universal router for broadcasting IPTV ( digital television).

The article consists of the following sections:

  • Configuring the computer's network card to automatically obtain an IP address;
  • Connecting a router;
  • Updating the router's firmware to latest version;
  • Setting up an Internet connection using ADSL technology;
  • Setting up digital television (IPTV) via ADSL.

We remind you that in order to connect to the Internet and digital television, you must first obtain these services from your provider. During the setup, you will need an agreement with the provider, which contains your username, password, as well as the VPI and VCI values. You can also find out these parameters by finding them on the website of your provider or by calling its technical support service.

After connecting the router, we strongly recommend that you reflash it.

Even after the router hits store shelves, our engineers are working on further improving it. Each subsequent firmware makes the router even more stable, faster and more convenient. Moreover, each new firmware expands the list of supported modems.

If possible, before starting the router connection procedure, go to the page, select your router model and download the latest firmware version.

If you don't know the model and version of your router, turn the device over and find the sticker on the underside of the case. Among other information, it indicates the model and hardware version of the router (if any).

Configuring the computer's network interface

Before connecting and configuring the router, you must configure the computer's network card to automatically obtain the IP address and DNS server address.

If you still have questions about the setup network connection, watch our video tutorials on Youtube.com, in which we clearly show how this is done.

Router connection

After network interface configured, go to the router connection.

  1. Connect the supplied network UTP cable ("twisted pair") To network board computer and to the LAN2 - LAN3 ports of the router.
  2. If you have an IPTV service connected, connect the IPTV set-top box to the LAN4 port of the router using a network cable.
  3. Disconnect the phone cable from telephone socket and connect it to the PHONE port of the splitter.
  4. Plug the splitter into a telephone wall jack.
  5. Connect the supplied telephone cable to the DSL port of the router and to the MODEM port of the splitter.
  6. Connect the plug of the AC adapter to the POWER connector of the router and then plug the AC adapter into a power outlet. Turn on the power with the SWITCH button. The Power indicator on the front of the router should light up. The router starts downloading.
  7. After booting, the router will automatically assign an IP address to the connected computer. On the front panel of the router, the indicator of the connection to the corresponding LAN port will light up, and a message will appear in the notification area of the Windows taskbar that the computer is connected to the local network.

Flashing

Before starting the ADSL connection setup, we strongly recommend that you update your router's firmware.

Update procedure software the router is not complicated and does not require any special knowledge... To keep the risks as low as possible, remember the main rule: do not flash the router by connecting to it wirelessly! Reflash by connecting your computer with a network cable, as recommended above.

To update the router's firmware, do the following:

The flashing procedure for UPVEL universal routers is also clearly demonstrated in our video tutorial.

Configuring ADSL connection via the web interface

So, your router is connected to your computer and its firmware has been updated to the latest version.

It's time to start setting up your Internet connection.

Setting up IPTV over ADSL

In this section, we will tell you how to configure your router to use IPTV. If you do not use IPTV, you do not need to enter these settings.

There are two ways IPTV settings.

    In the first of them, one of the LAN ports is allocated, which is directly connected to the provider's equipment (a "bridge" connection). Thus, the equipment connected to this port receives IP addresses and other necessary parameters directly from the provider. Router functions such as LAN, DHCP, NAT, etc. will not work for this port.

    In the second method, digital television broadcasting is organized using the IGMP protocol. In practice, this means that equipment connected to any port or via Wi-Fi will have access to both IPTV and the Internet.

Below we will demonstrate in detail the process of setting up IPTV by each of these methods. They cannot be applied at the same time, so just pick the one that best suits your needs.

Configuring IPTV with a dedicated port

In this section, we will tell you how to allocate a port for connecting an IPTV receiver (- "set-top boxes") by configuring the router accordingly.

To make sure that the entered port binding settings are correct, click the "Port binding summary" button on the same page.

Take a look at the image below. "p0" and interfaces "e1", "e2" and "e3" are in one group, and "p1" and "e4" are in another. You should get the same result.

After that, connect the IPTV receiver to the "LAN4" port of your router using a network cable. At the end of the procedure, restart the receiver by turning off the power and turning it back on.

Configuring IPTV over IGMP

In this section, we will tell you how to configure the router to work with IPTV without allocating a separate port.

After that, connect the IPTV receiver to the router using a network cable or Wi-Fi. At the end of the procedure, restart the IPTV receiver by turning off the power and turning it on again.

So. We have, within reach, a WiFi network available to us. The task is to get the Internet through wireless connection for "sharing" on our internal network. To do this, we need to turn one of the routers (Upvel UR-315BN) into a client (repeater).

We go into the settings of the router through the browser of the computer connected by the patchcord to the device we are testing by entering its own IP address in the line and typing the login and password for access to the interface previously set by us for security purposes. Immediately after that, open the tab "Mode of operation" and change the "daw" to "Wireless WAN Connection".

Be sure to save the changes with the button below and go to the tab "Basic WiFi Settings"... Here we change the operating mode to "Customer" and enter the SSID (network name) to which we intend to connect.

We do everything as in the screenshot below, remembering that the channel and encryption method on the access point and our repeater must be identical (therefore, the channel number is set to "auto"). A little about encryption from the inscriptions in the figure ... Be sure to remember to save the changes with the button below (otherwise all our gestures were in vain).

Next, click on the button "Search WiFi networks" and we get to the page, in fact, the search for networks. Click here "Search"(strange, how could you not have guessed ?!) and we are presented with a table with the networks available in our area.

We find the network we need, mark it with a "daw" and click "Connect" at the bottom. We will be prompted to enter the SSID and password. Enter the name and password of the network to which we are connecting. We save.

Depending on the firmware, either the router starts to reboot itself, or we need to press the "reboot" button on the "status" page (at the very beginning of the interface).

After that, the router thinks for some time (at the same time it urges you not to turn it off or restart it). After a minute of waiting, you will most likely be asked again to enter the login and password for accessing the router interface (but not a fact - no one can be sure what is on his mind). So, we look at the "Status" tab.

If the list " WiFi settings"->" Status "an inscription appeared "Connected", then everything is Ok and we have connected to a remote access point.

You can immediately check the availability of the Internet in your browser by opening a website. Well, for those who like cmd, of course: ping, tracert, pathping. If such an inscription about the connection does not appear for too long, then the procedure should be repeated from the very beginning.

So, after one of our routers (in our case it is Upvel) turned into a repeater, now you can connect the rest to it via twisted pair from the LAN repeater to the WAN access of our network.

I already spoke last time about how the others are set up and I will not repeat this. Just note that they work in the "gateway" mode, and in the WAN interface settings there is a DHCP client (that is, it is connected to a dedicated line that does not require entering the provider's login and password).

That's probably all. We look at the speed.

We came across not a super high-speed access point, of course, but without fish. Yes, moreover, each of the routers can be accessed from each device connected to any network access point by entering its IP in the browser line and typing the security login and password of this router. Maybe someone will come in handy.

Many thanks to Ivan who shared this useful information on configuring the Upvel router in repeater (client) mode.

Upvel is an American company offering a wide range of equipment for Internet access. It works closely with many providers, which often offer an Upvel router for rent or installment in the connection set. The equipment is not inferior in characteristics to analogs of more well-known brands and has an affordable price.

The most popular are budget models UpvelUR-315BN and UR-325BN. They fit under technical capabilities most operators, therefore, widespread. Usually a disc is included in the kit. quick installation, but also manual setting Upvel router will not cause difficulties. It is enough to get the data of the network parameters from the provider and start studying the instructions.

Models UR-315BN and UR-325BN practically do not differ in price and are similar in characteristics.

Router Upvel UR-315BN:

  • maximum Wi-Fi speed 150 Mbps;
  • transmitter power 13 dBM;
  • one 2dBi antenna;
  • 4 LAN ports 100 Mbps;
  • the presence of a firewall, NAT, DHCP, dynamic DNS, static routing;
  • support for all communication protocols used in the Russian Federation;
  • VLAN and IPTV support.

Router Upvel UR-325BN:

  • frequency 2.4 GHz, standard 802.11n;
  • maximum Wi-Fi speed 300 Mbps;
  • MIMO support;
  • encryption WEP, WPA, WPA2, 802.1x;
  • transmitter power 13 dBM;
  • range outdoors 300 meters, indoors up to 100 meters;
  • 4 LAN ports 100 Mbps;
  • support for bridge mode, repeater, WDS technology;
  • support of communication protocols used in the Russian Federation, the presence of static and dynamic routing, firewall.
  • 2 antennas 2 dBi each;
  • 32 megabytes of RAM;
  • VLAN and IPTV support.

As you can see, the main difference is in the number of antennas and the maximum possible speed wireless connection... Routers have very decent characteristics for their price category, one of the obvious advantages is VLAN support.

Instructions for configuring the Upvel router

Before configuring the router, you need to correctly connect it and set the parameters network card... In the WLAN connector on back side the case, you need to turn on the provider's Internet cable, which is brought into the room. The network card of your computer must be connected to one of the LAN ports. If you will use IPTV set-top box, then it also needs to be connected to one of these ports.

In the settings of the network card in the properties of the TCP / IP protocol, there should be a checkmark for automatically obtaining DNS and IP. Usually in Windows they are the same by default, but it's better to check it so that you don't come back to this question later.

Configuring an Upvel router includes the following steps:

  1. Authorization and password change.
  2. Wi-Fi setup.
  3. Network configuration.
  4. Customization
  5. Port parameters and factory reset.

Authorization and password setting

Before starting work, you need to log into the web-based interface of the router and set your own access password. This is necessary in order to prevent intruders from penetrating and stealing traffic. To do this, follow these steps:

Wi-Fi options

Now let's go to the " Wi-Fi network”And see what opportunities are offered there. Items "Frequency" and SSID can be left unchanged. The router operates on 2.4 GHz, and the SSID is simply the name of the network that is visible to everyone in the antenna's coverage area. You can enter any word you like. And also you should not change the channel width - this is a parameter that is standard for all equipment.

But with the channel number in the future, you can experiment. At the first setup, you can set auto-selection, then the router itself will find the optimal one in its opinion. This does not always work well, so if unstable or slow connection you can download a dedicated Wi-Fi scanning app, it will let you know which channel is better to use. After that, you can change the parameter in the Upvel web interface.

An important point is the encryption method. It is recommended to set WPA-mixed, in the cipher suite check both TKIP and AES, the authentication method is private, the key format is set to "password" and enter a set of numbers that will be used as a password. This set needs to be memorized or written down somewhere, without it, access to Wi-Fi will be impossible.

Network parameters

Opening the "Settings" tab, you will see there the sub-items "LAN interface", "WAN interface", "VLAN interface", "Date and time". Everything is clear with the last point, you just need to set the actual values. In the first paragraph, there are also few possibilities: you can simply change the address of the router in the network. That is, you need to enter the web interface not through the address 192. 168.10.1, but the one that you yourself come up with.

Let's take a look at how the WAN interface is configured. You will need the data provided by the provider.

First of all, the connection type can be DHCP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP depending on the operator.

With DHCP, you simply select this type of connection and do not change anything else. You can, this is the physical address of the equipment. But once again it is not worth touching these settings, at least, without agreement with the provider.

If your connection type is PPPoE, please enter the username and password information provided by your service provider. As a rule, they are indicated in the contract.

For L2TP connection type, select dynamic IP, enter Domain name server (data from the provider), login and password (also see in the contract), permanent connection type, DNS automatically.

The VLAN interface will allow you to configure work with an IPTV set-top box.

IPTV parameters

Connect the set-top box to the fourth LAN port on the case. In the settings of the previous section (WAN interface), the following items should be checked:

  • Allow uPNP;
  • Allow IGMP proxy;
  • Allow pings over WAN.

After that, go to the VLAN settings and check the "Activate" box. The Ethernetport 4 line must have a checkmark and the Bridge, priority 3 parameter.

The page allows you to manage VLAN settings, but this is not required for the first setup.

Other possibilities

The router also allows you to reconfigure ports, if you want to make a server on the local network, then Upvel will redirect requests from certain services to the local host behind the firewall. If you enable this function, then you need to specify the IP to which the redirection will be, the range of ports and the protocol.

If you do not need anything like this, just do not touch this item.

Finally, the last point allows you to:

  • Save the current parameters of the router to a file in case of reinstallation or any other problems. Then in the future you will not have to manually check the boxes, it will be enough just to load the settings file.
  • Load from file - an item that allows you to set all the necessary parameters with one click. If you bought a router from a provider, then, most likely, he will provide you with a file with settings.
  • Set default settings - reset the hardware parameters to factory defaults.

Thus, you can manually configure the Upvel router, as well as run automatic installation parameters. Any communication problems or key parameter changes should be discussed with technical support operator. If you rent a router or installment plan along with connecting to tariff plan, then, most likely, it will already be ready for work. It is nevertheless useful to be able to set the parameters according to your preferences, especially with regard to the Wi-Fi network.
